Getting clients to add content

One of the most difficult parts of being a web designer is trying to get clients to add content and when they get around to that, its trying to put the text and images on the right page. Some times it is quite straight forwards, home page, about us, service and contact address. Home page picture of the company, smiling company picture for about us, working picture for service and a nice map for contact us.

On the other hand you sometimes get a client with a 10 page website and 40 pictures, and they want you to pick the pictures and then you haven’t picked the right pictures.

One way I try to make it easier to add text and pictures is to draw up a form with the page titles and empty boxes ready for the text and image numbers, but even this is a bit too complicated at times. The most simple way to sometimes get the pictures and text on the right pages is just a have the page title and hopefully the client writes the text below it for that page. For images an easy thing to do is set up folders on a drop box account and share these with the client. Drop Box is free up to 2GB and you can get more space by getting friends to sign up. This way you can share a pre made folder and they can upload the images into the page folders and you get the images on the right pages. But then you didn’t put them in the right order they had them laid out on their pc (doh), so then you have to send them a form to write down the image names in the correct order. When it gets to this stage the best thing to do is have a meeting with them and sort it out or do it over the phone.
