Rio movie marketing

Rio Movie PosterWith movies these days there are a few popular marketing strategies that marketing teams can go for. There are the public transport banners, the newpaper spreads, billboards, TV adds and the big one, Orange Wednesday’s add. Well the latest Blue Sky Studio’s movie Rio has done them all, including getting the hugely popular Rovio games company to make a Rio version of their hit mobile game Angry Birds. Now thats gotta cost some.

They also got the back spread of MSN and a deal with UK cinema giants Cineworld for free kids 3D glasses. Anyone who has been to the cinema in the past couple of months will have seen the Orange Wednesday’s add with the two main stars of the movie. If you haven’t see any advertising for this movie I would be very surprised. The marketing team have done a very good job but can you imagine what their budget was!

Now with all the marketing is the movie going to live up to its hipe….

Bafta Winning Movie’s

Bafta logoI regularly go to the cinema and watched this years Baftas with my own favourite in mind. Most of the films and actors who won a Bafta a agreed with, but there were some exceptions.

The Kings Speach is brilliant and Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter both deserve their awards. If i could I would give Geoffrey Rush a best supporting actor but he had really good competition in Christian Bale for his role in The Fighter, of which he deserved his award. The Kings Speach really is one of the best films I have seen in a while. The performances are brilliant, they make you laugh and cry, and keep your eyes glued to the screen for 111 minutes. It also gives some insight into a bit of history I myself didn’t know and kinda ashamed that I didn’t lol.

As for winning the Best Film award i’m not so sure about. I have seen all the nominated films, The Kings Speach, Black Swan, Inception, The Social Network and True Grit. Out of all of them I would buy The Kings Speach and Inception on dvd, so thats a good thing. The Black Swan made me think after it – wack job, and as much as it was an outstanding performance from the cast, espesially Natelie Portman, I wouldn’t watch it again. The Social Network just made me hate all the cast for being ass holes to each other, well maybe not the Andrew Garfield who was playing Eduardo Saverin, because he got screwed. As for True Grit it had nice scenery in the movie, em, yeh thats about it. Can’t say i’ll be watching it again. I was disapointed that The Fighter didn’t get nominated because i would put it between The Kings Speach, Inception and The Fighter.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I have to admit when the Harry Potter books first came out i didn’t rush to read them, mainly because for me to read one book a year is an achievement! I would rather sleep when i go to bed or sleep when i sunbathe or sleep when I’m on the bus….. bit of a trend going on here. But last year I finally picked up the first book and started reading it and have since slowly but surly worked my was through them up until the last book, the Deathly Hallows. Like a lot of people out there I am very excited to see the last two movies and finally find out the end of the story, but i have one problem. Should I carry on watching the movie then reading the book or try and read the last book before the movies are out? decisions decisions….

From watching all the movies to then reading the books, I can see why book fans got so angry at how much the plot was changed and how much detail was missed, but there was a lot of details too miss when trying to squeeze the plot into a two hour movie! Think the directors deserve some credit there! I do quite like reading the books now but knowing the overall story in the back of my mind from having seen the movie, but the books give you so much more detail and insight that I would recommend everyone to read them!

So to try read the Deathly Hallows before the movie or not…..
