My week off work

So Friday marks the end of my holiday, its not been a classic, but i have got a lot of stuff done i wanted to. I’ve passed another two JavaScript exams, yey, so that takes a lot of pressure off as i am back on schedule to finish the next two exams by the end of September. Cramming two month sized exams into the space of a week is not recommended! For one my practical abilities are terrible as i have been focusing on the exam questions but once they are all over i can go back and brush up properly.

On Tuesday a well needed trip to the shops was needed as my current set of headphones had decided to disintegrate, yip the cloth that covers the headphones just fell apart, and one of the springs that kept them tight on my ears packed in. I did have them for a good ten years so i guess i can forgive them for finally falling apart. Luckily HMV had a sale on their tech gear and i got a new set for £20. So i now had a nice new set of headphones to listen to my JavaScript training.

Wednesday was a computer free day! started out with a trip to Scot Kart thanks to my boss who gave me two free sessions for winning the F1 predictions last year. Thanks Gene! It was brilliant as usual. I hadn’t been in nearly two years and I’ll admit my first session lap times showed that. Euan well and truly beat me on the times with that one, and as we staggered out the carts rubbing our arms the supervisor decided to  give us a few tips. Number one being drive faster and the steering will be lighter and your arms wont be killing you so much! Hm really, because i thought i was going quite fast! Then he decides to do a couple laps and show us the racing line…. yeh i sucked. He tanks it round knocking a good 8 seconds off my time. So second session starts and breaking a little later and relaxing and leaning round the corners really worked. The back end of the cart was everywhere making it much funner and not hurting the arms at all. I knocked 5 seconds off my time doing a 0.32.50 lap. The track record is 0.28.0 so not quite as fast as the experts but it was great fun!

Thursday was back to study, with breaks of WordPress as i am trying to convert a HTML site to WordPress. I also went to see fast Five with my sister. I’ll admit i love the Fast and Furious movies, ok well Tokyo drift was a bit shit but the rest I’d happily watch again and this one was the same. There aren’t as many cars/races but there is a lot of Vin Diesel doing his thing (flexing his muscles), so i was happy.

And today, Friday, where I’ve done some more studying and hopefully finished off another WordPress site, barring any last changes, for a guy wanting to advertise the cars he is selling. If i get the other WordPress site I’m converting from HTML done, and a new style for a Joomla site I’m doing done it’ll have been a good week off work… doing work… maybe next time I’ll be away from a computer.

Rio movie marketing

Rio Movie PosterWith movies these days there are a few popular marketing strategies that marketing teams can go for. There are the public transport banners, the newpaper spreads, billboards, TV adds and the big one, Orange Wednesday’s add. Well the latest Blue Sky Studio’s movie Rio has done them all, including getting the hugely popular Rovio games company to make a Rio version of their hit mobile game Angry Birds. Now thats gotta cost some.

They also got the back spread of MSN and a deal with UK cinema giants Cineworld for free kids 3D glasses. Anyone who has been to the cinema in the past couple of months will have seen the Orange Wednesday’s add with the two main stars of the movie. If you haven’t see any advertising for this movie I would be very surprised. The marketing team have done a very good job but can you imagine what their budget was!

Now with all the marketing is the movie going to live up to its hipe….

Start of the F1 season 2011

So there are no new teams this year but there are some rule changes and of course, new drivers. With the first race of the season being cancelled (boo) due to some feisty citizens the first race of the season will be in Australia on the 27th of March.

Rule Changes.

Cars can now have an adjustable rear wing, this is meant to booste over taking.

KERS is back. Basically a booste button for teams that can aford it.

No F duct this year, but the KERS and adjustable wing should make up for that.

Gear boxes also have to last five races, so lets hope Renaults are up to scratch!

Teams.
